Why philosophy and what is its relationship with Quran wisdom?

God told us that the ultimate secret of our existence is to be Allah’s vicegerent on earth, but how can we reach this noble purpose of existence?

We can find the answer to this question by philosophizing. Philosophy is the love of wisdom. The Qur’an explicitly calls for reverencing wisdom and wise people. In fact, we can replace the term philosophy with Quran wisdom to find the way to a great gate of questions that the Qur’an has fostered, by thinking deeply about our everyday decisions. The Quran urges us to think, consider carefully, observe, learn from and follow the verses within (will ye not reason).

The Qur’an gives us a mental and spiritual method to developing values and concepts (Say, [O Muhammad], “Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allah will produce the final creation. Indeed Allah, over all things, is competent) verse 20 of Al-‘Ankabut (Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought)1 verse13 of Al-Jathiyah, and many other verses.
The Quran contains in the content of verses thousands of different questions and also urges questioning in many ways: (Look at your food and your drink; it has not changed with time. And look at your donkey) verse 259 of Al-Baqarah (2)

We are also invited to wonder; to wonder about the sky, earth, the sunrise, the rain, the plant that comes slowly out of the depth of the different seeds quenched with one water, one kind of water sprouts thousands of forms of fruits. The philosophy of how God wants us to act in the Qur’an is to see the world with a child’s eye, as if we were seeing it for the first time, not to give in to the obvious, but to delve into our minds in a world of wonder and surprise.

Philosophy is concerned about the fundamental questions of daily life: What is this world? How can we be certain about knowledge? How do I choose my ethical decisions? How do we know ourselves and deal with others? How do we live a better life and fulfill God’s order for us to be his vicegerent in the earth?

Philosophy is concerned with the body and the mind, as well as with the spiritual side. These aspects are the foundation of any education that guarantees the child a more holistic experience than the indoctrination method. Moreover, philosophy gives us excellent academic tools to clarify and examine content through philosophical theories of knowledge, experiential sciences can grow and develop, as well as ethical reasoning that helps in shaping ethical choices, and how these options can be analyzed, reasoned, critiqued and evaluated.

The added value of learning moral reasoning is the ability to counterbalance between the personal and the general and between the part and the whole. Who am I in this great world and how should I behave in a virtuous manner based on the acquaintances I have?  How should I consider the consequences, balance between my roles and the rights of others, the damage caused by my behavior on myself and others?

Baseera provides an education that enables the child and the young to discover, understand and create knowledge about the world and everyday life. The philosophy studied in the program provides an educational method which teaches living a life of quality, content, meaning and full of life experiences worth observing.
